CHURCH HILL

Church Hill is located between Fayette, Mississippi and Natchez. It's the oldest church in Mississippi and it will take your breath away when you come to the crossroads and see it crowning a hill. I have taken many friends and family members to see its magnificence for themselves. My wife and I picnicked there, photographing it for a Christmas card. My friend, Haleem Solomon (shown in the photograph) and I went there on one of our many pilgrimages before he died. My favorite trip to the church was with my daughter, Rebecca. We left McComb long before daylight because I wanted her to see the church at sunrise. We got a coffee to go at a gas station and traveled the fifty miles in the dark. Just as we got to the crossroads and looked up to the hill, the sun came up on cue. My daughter didn't break the spell by exclaiming over the magnificent sight. She soaked it in, just as I knew she would. Since then we have talked about our trip to Church Hill many times and it remains a memory we will treasure.
