Granny's Corner
They're getting harder and harder to find. They used to be down every back road in Mississippi and you could mount your motorcycle and leave home confident that soon you would be eating some of the best country food in the south. Now it's hard to find the little country store that serves up a blue plate special and a heavenly hamburger. Still cooking after all these years in McCall Creek, Mississippi is one of my favorite places...Granny's Corner. Hunters order the cheeseburger according to Genette Ratcliff, the cook who told me regardless of the special the hunters seem to want the burger. I always ask the cook what her favorite item on the menu is and she told me hers is the rib eye steak poboy. You may be sharing a table with a deer hunter, a farmer or a banker if they've been lucky enough to find this place. Today the dessert was a warm chess pie Genette had just taken from the oven. To find it go west on 98 off I-55 at Summit. When you cross the Franklin County line, take the first paved road to the right (Burt Jordan) Go two miles to the crossroads and you'll find it. Every other Saturday is bar-be-que ribs day.
